PREreview’s community localization and translation campaign is live!

This week, we kicked off our campaign with two bilingual demo calls supported by our amazing interpreters from A Simple Translation. The calls were facilitated in English (US EN) with live interpretation into Brazilian Portuguese (BR PT, call 1) and into Latin American Spanish (LA ES, call 2).

During the calls, we invited participating community members to share their hopes with us regarding PREreview’s work to support open, peer review across multiple languages. Then, Chris Wilkinson, our Head of Technology, demoed how to use Crowdin, an online, collaborative translation platform that empowers open-source projects to work with community members for free. Each call closed with Q&A and feedback from our participants.

What happens next?

Over the next few weeks, we’ll continue to gather suggested localizations and translations from community members joining this project. We’ll work through selecting and approving the most helpful suggestions with the team from A Simple Translation and community members who’d like to support our localization and translation work more deeply. If that’s you, let us know on Slack or by emailing us at help@prereview.org.

By mid-July, we’ll make our first localizations live on PREreview.org itself.

Our Product team will also organize and announce office hours beginning in July to help community members learn how to use Crowdin and answer any questions that come up that we didn’t get the chance to address on our demo calls. Check out our newsletter, Slack, and social media channels (like Bluesky, LinkedIn, and Mastodon) to keep up with news about these office hours.

Then, later this year, around October or November, we’ll begin another discovery and prioritization process to find out which other languages have wide geographic representation on our platform and website and which other languages community members would like us to work on localizing and translating in 2026.
