Preprints are open access scientific manuscripts that have not yet been through editorial peer review. Since they are shared freely online by the authors early in the peer review process, constructive criticism can also be integrated before the final version of the manuscript is published. PREreview provides resources for journal clubs organized around institutions and laboratories to review preprints with their colleagues, however, at a time when we can’t gather in person to discuss science, PREreview and PLOS Pathogens is bringing the discussion to you.
On Monday, May 11, 2020, at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST, PLOS Pathogens and PREreview is hosting a Live COVID-19 Preprint Journal Club. We will review Development and Evaluation of A CRISPR-based Diagnostic For 2019-novel Coronavirus collaboratively with other participants from around the world. We will use a combination of verbal and written feedback and a collaborative writing document to discuss the strengths and concerns of the preprint towards improving the manuscript. The Live Preprint Journal Club will be guided by experienced facilitators, with the help of Dr. Mark Heise, in a safe, constructive environment. Best of all, the review will be assigned a DOI and you will get credit for the review.
