Commenting is live on PREreview.org!
Over the past 2 years, we’ve rebuilt our open preprint review platform from the ground up, and that meant we had to pause or remove several features that did not work properly in the past. Bit by bit, we’ve created a friendlier, more robust, and more useful PREreview with input and help from our amazing community of authors, organizations, and reviewers like you.
Today, we’re very excited to launch commenting on PREreview.org!
Whether you’re an author responding to community feedback or an expert reviewer keeping the conversation going, you can use our refreshed commenting feature to affirm, clarify, question, and continue sharing constructive comments on PREreview.org.
Thank you to everyone who has provided us with feedback about this feature and waited patiently for commenting and author response to come to the site!
How it works
First, log in to PREreview with your ORCID iD. You need to be registered and logged in to leave a comment on PREreview.org. If you aren’t logged in when you begin your comment, PREreview.org will ask you to login as part of the commenting process.
Then, to start commenting on a published PREreview, pick one from our homepage or find one on our reviews page. Click on the name of the PREreview to visit its page on our site.
At the bottom of the review, you’ll find a new section called “Comments.” To leave a comment, click on the “Write a comment” button.
This button will launch a short workflow like our review workflow. As a first step, you’ll be able to confirm that you’re leaving a comment on the correct review.
Then you can type or copy and paste your comment into our text editor.
After that, you can choose your public or pseudonymous profile. Public comments will be attributed to you; pseudonymous comments will be attributed to your pseudonym instead.
Regardless of which profile you chose, next you’ll also have the chance to declare any competing interests between you and the author of the preprint or between you and any of the other publicly identifiable commenters who have already left feedback on the review, including the authors of the PREreview.
After declaring any competing interests, you’ll affirm that you are following our Code of Conduct. Comments are meant to be constructive and helpful to authors and reviewers engaged in conversation with one another about the same preprint. All of our community standards apply to comments, just as they do to reviews and events and spaces we facilitate.
Finally, you’ll be able to review your comment and the other information you provided before publishing your comment on the review.
Once you take that final step, your constructive feedback will appear below the review on PREreview.org.
As commenting goes live on PREreview.org, we’re excited for all the conversation and help our authors and reviewers will be able to extend one another to affirm, clarify, and question research to make it better for everyone.
